Shame on me for not posting in almost 9 months....um....my bad.  Quite a bit has happened since last September!  And since I'm  not much of a writer (more of a list maker, really) I've
decided to just make a list of our latest and not so latest adventures!
  • We celebrated our 1st Halloween together! Chris (and Wes, naturally) went as sorority girls, while I myself went as their frat daddy!
  • We also celebrated our first Christmas together - and it was a surprise White Christmas! Now, you all know how much I love snow...I revert back to my 5 year old self whenever a snowflake falls within a 10 mile radius.  Needless to say, I was so excited that presents had to wait until after I was done playing in the snow. It was amazing! Now I'm not one to believe that God sent the snow for me...but, I did have to wonder.
  • Then in January, we decided to pick up and move to Birmingham since it was closer to Chris's job.  I have to say, its been GREAT! We're literally 6 minutes away from my cousin Shanna and her family, so needless to say I've been their babysitter for the last 6 months. Its been great! I love hanging out with that kid! Or as my Nana would say "that baby" (Every baby is "that baby").  We also found a home church, and a few new friends!
  • February brought our 1st Valentine's Day as married folk.  Our gifts to each other? A 5 week old puppy!  Gillie is her name, and she's the cutest mutt you'll ever lay eyes on. Pug-Dachshund-Beagle mix.  She's an adventure in itself. So we've been house breaking, dog parking, stick throwing, you name it for the last few months.
  • Our long lost puppy child/BFF Wes came back for a visit!
  • We took our 1st vacation to Ft. Walton Beach, FL for our 1st Anniversary.  We were broke, but none the less, it was needed - and it was great!  We swam in the seaweed, went to a fancy schmancy restaurant, drank wine on the beach, and read our books (mine, "The Help" his, "The History of Basketball). VERY relaxing.
  • I had my first pickling adventure in July with my Mom, Nana & Mother-in-law.  We made 24 jars of dill pickles.  Question is, with my love of dill pickles allow those 24 jars to last a whole year? doubt it.  So Mom's making another batch this week.
  • We just got back from a Ryan family vacation to Navarre Beach, minus Jon & Ging :(.  We swam in a Seaweed FREE ocean, I got my first and second jelly fish stings, Chris hovered under the umbrella while not swimming, and lived his dream of watching 2 different women's world cup games on 2 separate screens at the same time.  We spent about 4 hours watching Wes's Zaarly-Truman Show, convinced Chris to play Phase 10 again (of which he then lost, but was satisfied because he still beat me), and got his parents addicted to Lost. (yeah, your welcome).
Long story short, its been a great year, even with the ups and downs of tornados, friends moving away, losing a family member, and a dear friend getting very sick - we have had many highpoints in our last 9 months, and can't wait for the next nine!

Merry Christmas to us!

Surprise! We actually pulled it off!

So after being away from family for over 3 months, we finally had a wonderful excuse to go home this past weekend: Chris's Mom's 50th birthday!

His Dad called 2 weeks ago and told us he wanted to have a big surprise party for her, and wanted all the family to come home and surprise her; on top of a large surprise party for her on Saturday night.  Well, I LOVE surprise parties...I threw Chris one basically every year until this past year, tried to throw one for MY Mom's 50th, and have thrown them for multiple friends in high school. So naturally, we were thrilled to get to go home for a big surprise!

Well, being that I have part of Jolyn Pearce's DNA in me, I "pulled a Nana" before the party planning even started.  Tuesday morning a co-worker texted me and asked if I could work that Saturday for her - she had texted me with a "media message' and for some reason, my phone just doesn't handle those very well. So I backed out and started a new text that said, "No I'm so sorry I can't - its Chris's Mom's big Surprise birthday weekend in Huntsville!"...but who's number did I put in? Not Hillary's - but of course Renee, Chris's Mom's. STRAIGHT to her. What a "Nana Move".

Well, Steve (Chris's Dad) was quick to think up an excuse - making her think that us just coming home for the weekend was the big surprise, instead of giving away the whole huge party!

So Friday morning, we packed up and headed to Chris's parent's house.  AHHH so good to be home!  She was shocked and excited! And Mema even brought dinner so no one had to really cook! It was so nice.
This is how Chris spend the majority of Friday. He had worked all Thursday night, and that large meal didn't help keep him awake!
Then we watched a little slideshow, and Chris and I got souveniers that his parents bought us when they went to Michigan this summer...i got super cute moose PJ shorts, and Chris got boxers with a picture of a bear shaking off water that says "SHAKE IT"...he later came down in his  Devon Banks robe and modeled the boxers for us. So kind.
Chris in his uber short Devon Banks robe & brand new boxers.
Then Saturday morning Chris and I got up to go watch my youngest sister play soccer. She scored her 1st goal too!  Then Ginger (sister-in-law) and I went shopping at Bridgestreet, along with some frozen yogurt, and just general girl time. It was so good - I've missed her while she was in Michigan!
Ashley playing soccer!

That night we all went to Macaroni Grill for Renee's birthday (and DANG was it yummy). Enjoyed coloring on the tables like 5 year olds, hearing a cheesy "Italian Birthday" song (slash, literally "Happy Birthday" in Italian, all churched up), and eating an entire bowl of olives.
Bday Table Writing. Incase you can't see, it said "I'm Vintage" & "50".

Mema's points to Papaw and says "I'm with Grumpy".

 Birthday Serenade
Then Jonathan, Ginger, Chris  and I ducked out a few minutes early so we could be part of the surprise. She was genuinely surprised! (Altho, I'm not sure if it was b/c of the party, or b/c of Chris jumping out of the closet and yelling "Surprise" before anyone else had a chance to - scaring the crap out of her.)

SURPRISE!!
Greeting a few of the party guests!
Chris kicking off the "Mini Roast"
Me and my "oldest" little sister Cassie - she just got contacts! She looks so pretty!
One of my dearest friends, Paige! She came by and joined the party after  UAH soccer practice - and after dislocating her shoulder.  That's a real woman.
Sunday we went to church & then to lunch with both our families, then headed home to Ttown.
Ashley (my littlest sister) rode with us to lunch and we sang Justin Beiber!
Chris while we sang Justin songs....such a fantastic bro-in-law.
It was SUCH a great weekend to enjoy family and friends, and a major milestone celebration! Thanks family! We love you!

We Give Up!

Ok, so after years of silently judging someone every time they have said the word "Blog", we have given in to the new millennium, and started our own blog-dom.  Welcome to our world, buckle up.

Long story short, we got married 83 days ago, after over 6.25 years of dating (yeah, it took forever).  We love married life! The ups, the downs, the waaaayyy downs, and the way ups. We love it!  So we wanted to make a place where everyone could love it. So, you're welcome. Oh yeah, and for family to keep up with us.

We're going to try to blog often, with a promise to blog once a week updates at bare minimum.

So what's our life like right now? Well, to break it down simply - here's what we've done over the last 83 days:

  • Spent too much time at work (story of my life).
  • Taught a 3rd grade Sunday school class after only 1 hour of sleep.
  • Seen the best movie ever: Inception
  • Adopted a son, his name is Wes Tate.
  • Discovered that Sam's club sells Sam Adams in bulk
  • Eaten way too much Jimmy John's
  • Discovered that Chris is actually quite the grill master when it comes to chicken
  • Understood the value of Netflix
  • Procrastinated writing our Thank You notes
  • Purchased my little brother a Mexican Wrestling Mask (You're Welcome. I expect you to wear it in your concerts during at least 1 song.)

  • Knocked a hole in the wall
  • Learned why our parents keep the A/C at 78 degrees in the summertime
  • Stopped buying snack foods
  • Invested in lots of fruit (cherries, apples, grapefruit, limes)
  • Chris has perfected his ability to grill white corn still in the husk (mainly b/c he loves that its buy 50/$1)
  • Have made the bed 75 out of those 83 days
  • LearnING to turn our phones off on Sundays.
  • Grieved over the loss of my Fattie (still brings a tear).

  • Turned our upstairs guest-bed into Wes & Jared's Room.
  • Registered to receive coupons
  • Complained about how expensive texts books are
  • Concluded that Chris has 5xs the amount of clothes that Meagan does (no, but for real).
  • Watched the entire series of LOST in 4 weeks (minus the 6th season...they took it off Hulu. Lame.)
  • Gone thru 2 bottles of Drain-o
  • Invented a special place for our plunger
  • Eaten a TON of Hungry Howie's (the owner lives across from us).
  • Hosted 2 FIFA World Cup viewing parties
  • Decorated our apartment for the 4th of July/USA vs. England.

Basically, its been a fanTASTIC first 83 days. We'll keep you posted.
Much love & God bless,
The Ryans
